Professional Dog Advice and Training offers a range of training classes at their dedicated training centre in Rainford, St Helens, near Liverpool.
All dogs are different. It does not matter how your dog thinks or behaves; we have the experience and knowledge to use the most appropriate training methods for your dog and, perhaps more importantly, for you. Some dogs and their owners are not suited to a training class environment, as it may be too distracting.
All our dog and puppy training is conducted at our Centre of Excellence training facility, where your dog will receive the trainer's full attention during sessions. Our dog training is tailored to your dog's specific needs.
Your puppy needs the best start you can give them. It is essential that basic training begins as soon as possible to avoid problems occurring later.
If your adult dog is misbehaving, we are here to help and advise you on methods to resolve the issue.
Any methods we use to teach your dog (and you!) during lessons must be continued both outside and in the home. Consistency during dog training is the key. Upon completion of training, Lee will contact you to request a progress report on your dog's behaviour. You can contact him anytime if any problems arise.
One thing you should always consider is that your dog cannot be trained. To ensure the success of any training programme, we must first eliminate the risk of failure. If we don't get this right, we will simply confuse the dog and fail to achieve the desired results. Many trainers often miss this vital step.
Adult Good Behaviour and Basic Obedience Classes
Everyone wants a well-behaved dog they can be proud of, and a well-behaved dog is more fun to be around. Obedience training also helps your dog to see you as the pack leader. Some commands, like a good recall, may even save your dog's life one day. Some basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, walking to heel.
Puppy Training Classes
Your puppy needs the best start you can give him. Puppy training lays the foundation for a well-behaved, balanced dog. Incorrect handling or following the wrong advice at this important stage of development can cause serious problems later. Repetition and consistency are key to training at this stage; it will then become normal behaviour.
Problem Dogs/Remedial Training
Many dog owners referred to us have already attended training classes but have been unsuccessful for a variety of reasons. Many dominant or aggressive dogs can be made much worse by attending training classes, and corrective training may be needed.
We do not accept dogs that are listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. These include XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro.
Problem Solving
Most of these behaviours are easy to fix with clear guidance and understanding. Some of the most common dog problems are: Barking, Begging, Jumping Up, Chewing, Digging, Mouthing, Licking, Biting, Separation Anxiety, and General Destructiveness.
These habits are annoying, but they may indicate your dog is stressed or anxious, and they are their way of coping.
Scent work and Search training
This type of training is beneficial for dogs of any breed or age and can be fun and rewarding for the owner as well. It provides your dog with mental stimulation, which in turn will help create a calmer dog and prevent boredom, which sometimes leads to bad behaviour.
Reactivity Training
Using positive reinforcement, we will advise you on managing your dog's environment to avoid triggers that cause unwanted reactions. The aim is to change your dog's emotional response; rather than feeling fear or frustration, we will use strategies to make them feel calm and safe.
Home Visits
It can be beneficial for a professional dog behaviourist to visit your home to assess the environment your dog lives in. Home visits are 2 hours and can provide clues about why behavioural problems are occurring, and they also give you the opportunity to show your relationship with your pet firsthand. You may be inadvertently teaching your dog bad behaviour without realising it, or not providing the correct environment for your particular dog. All dogs are different, trying to discover the root cause of any issues requires help from experienced people, otherwise whatever behaviour occurs at home, will continue outside of it.
Residential Dog Training
This one-to-one residential training at our Training Centre is the ideal environment for dogs requiring intensive behavioural training. It often helps the dog to experience a different environment away from their owner and receive one-to-one daily training.
The causes for their behaviour will vary. First, the root cause needs to be identified, and then a structured, customised training plan is implemented to address the behaviour. At the end of the residential training, we hand over your dog and offer further training classes to provide ongoing support.
